Vitamin B2 naturally occurs as the dinucleotide-free riboflavin and the 2-phosphorylated coenzymes – flavin mononucleotide (FMN) / riboflavin monophosphate and flavin adenine dinucleotide (FAD) / riboflavin adenosine diphosphate.

Flavin coenzymes FMN and FAC are essential for energy production through the respiratory chain. It is involved in many metabolic reactions of carbohydrates, fats and proteins, as well as in the synthesis of steroids, red blood cells and glycogen.
The vitamin helps to maintain the integrity of mucous membranes. It is also important for antioxidation in cell systems.
