Vitamins
Vitamin D3 / Cholecalciferol
Vitamin D refers a group of closely related compounds that exhibit antirachitic activity. It can be ingested as part of the diet or absorbed by exposing the body to sunlight. The two most prominent forms of vitamin D are ergocalciferol (vitamin D2) and cholecalciferol (vitamin D3). Vitamin D3 is hydroxylated in the liver into 25-hydroxy-vitamin D (25-OHD3), the circulatory and stored form of the vitamin. 25-OHD3 is transported to the kidneys where it can be converted into the active hormonal form 1,25 dihydroxy-vitamin D 1,25-(OH)2D3 or calcitriol. The main products used in animal nutrition are vitamin D3 and 25-OHD3.
